Estimated to be constructed before the reign of King Song Tham (1610-1628) of Ayutthaya period, Tonson Mosque, on Wang Doem Road, is considered the oldest Islamic mosque in Bangkok. It was once renovated in 1954 in an attempt to restore the architectural style of the old mosque. Tonson Mosque not only functions as a religious ground, but it also features ancient remains and relics that are worth seeing. At the outside of the building lies a graveyard of the chiefs of the Muslims in Thailand.
This mosque was built for Thai Muslims who chose to live along the Bangluang Canal, during King Taksin's fight to liberate Thailand from Burma (1767). It is known today as the Kudi Khao Community. Bang Luang Mosque built by a Muslim merchant called To Yi, it is the only mosque from brick and concrete in traditional Thai style in Thailand. The gables are decked with plaster stucco of tri-ethnic artworks: the traditional motif lining the gable frame, the Westerm foliage motif on the gable panel and the flowers in Chinese floral patterns.
